MILWAUKEE (September 21, 2015) – Safe use and operation of mining equipment is the goal of a collaborative relationship between the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
AEM and MSHA recently signed an agreement renewing their alliance at MSHA’s offices near Washington, D.C.
“AEM recognizes the benefits of joint efforts to create a safer work environment,” AEM President Dennis Slater said during the signing ceremony. “Our two organizations working together contribute to improved safe use of mobile equipment by those employed in the nation’s mining and milling operations.”
Through the alliance, AEM and MSHA will work cooperatively to provide mine industry personnel with information, guidance and access to training materials to emphasize the safe use and operation of equipment.
Slater noted that past projects undertaken by AEM and MSHA include:
- A program and training materials concerning use of seat restraints
- Contributions to the MSHA “rules to live by” program
- Targeted Training Supplements focusing on safe use of a number of machine forms
A working team of AEM and MSHA representatives will develop plans and projects that build on the past success of the alliance.
The alliance work group will identify important equipment related safety issues.
