Atlanta, GA: Takeuchi-US, an innovative global leader in compact equipment, has released the first hybrid dual-powered excavator in its lineup with the TB216H compact excavator. The TB216H features both an electric motor and diesel engine with its own pump group to power the machine’s hydraulics. The dual-power feature enables the operator to work indoors or outdoors, greatly increasing versatility.
Machine performance is consistent regardless of the power source the operator chooses. In diesel mode the machine is powered by a Yanmar Tier 4 Final engine, that offers an output of 14.9 horsepower (hp). For emissions free environments, the machine can be powered by the 14.2 hp electric motor.
The diesel engine is ideal for normal day-to-day operation, to load, unload and power the machine to an enclosed jobsite where the machine can be plugged into a 400 – 480 volt three phase power source for 100 percent emission-free operation. Should the machine be connected to electric power while running the diesel engine, the diesel engine will automatically shut off and the machine will begin to run off electric power once the key has been cycled.
A user-friendly machine, one of the great features of the TB216H is that the ignition, throttle, joysticks, and travel functions are the same regardless of the mode selected to power the machine. This provides an easy transition for an individual coming off of a machine that is strictly diesel powered.
To access a wide range of job sites and indoor applications, the TB216H features a retractable undercarriage that retracts from 51.2 inches to 38.6 inches. Additionally, the blade has bolt-on extensions that enable the width of the blade to match the undercarriage.
The TB216H has an operating weight of 4,277 pounds, maximum bucket breakout force of 4,250 pounds and maximum arm crowd force of nearly 1,843 pounds. It features an impressive working range with a maximum dig depth of 7 feet 10 inches and maximum reach of 13 feet 5 inches.
While the hybrid is the first of its kind offered by Takeuchi, it is engineered with the same attention to detail and quality as other excavators in the Takeuchi product line. Serviceability is very good to key daily maintenance and inspection points thanks to the electric motors ability to swing out away from the engine.
“The addition of the TB216H excavator to the Takeuchi product line is exciting and enables our customers with a product that features dual-power options to work in a broader range of applications,” said David Caldwell, national product manager at Takeuchi-US. “This brings a versatile and durable option to our customers’ lineup, eliminating the need for a separate machine to work indoors.”
