Tensar SpectraPave4-PRO Paved Application Method Receives Third-Party Endorsements

Feb. 26, 2014

ATLANTA – Feb. 24, 2014 – Tensar International, the leader in geosynthetic site development technology, has received independent endorsements from two of the nation’s top research and engineering firms for its SpectraPave4-PRO™ (SP4-PRO) design aid software, which incorporates geogrid into roadway design while meeting American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) standards for Geosynthetic Reinforcement of Aggregate Base Course of Flexible Pavement Structures.

The comprehensive report provided by Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) and Ryan R. Berg & Associates, Inc., details their findings, and concludes that Tensar’s approach and design methodology emulates the 1993 AASHTO pavement design guidance. The software allows engineers and other SP4-PRO users to evaluate design options in order to construct a mechanically stabilized base course layer within a flexible pavement system utilizing Tensar’s TriAx® Geogrid.

“In the past, geogrids were not used as a part of the AASHTO standards, and to be able to facilitate this calculation and methodology in the field is incredibly innovative,” said Bryan Gee, Tensar International Product Manager. “Receiving validation from these industry experts is an honor and we hope to see the use of SpectraPave4-PRO Software in more projects in the future.”

During the past 30 years, Tensar has partnered with highway agencies and university researchers to conduct studies that document the benefits of using mechanically stabilized layers (MSLs). Research confirms that utilizing geogrids extends the lifecycle of roads and reduces the amount of base course aggregate that is needed in a project.

SP4-PRO Software accurately predicts the performance of geogrid stabilized and un-stabilized roads with both paved and unpaved surfaces. The software is divided into modules that allow for subgrade stabilization, pavement optimization, and cost analysis.

Both ARA and Ryan R. Berg & Associates are leaders in this field of study. ARA is an international research and engineering company with research experience in civil engineering and environmental technologies. Ryan R. Berg & Associates is a consultancy specializing in geosynthetics.
