Fenton, MI. — April 15, 2015 — Webasto Thermo & Comfort North America, a world leader in engine-off vehicle heating equipment, and Diesel Emissions Service, the largest retailer of Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) in North America collaborate to increase DPF’s service interval when used to replace engine idle time.

Two technologies. Two experts. One “clean” solution.

Webasto is a leading manufacturer of fuel operated heaters that eliminate the need to idle for engine pre-heat and interior cabin comfort. These high efficiency heaters provide many benefits to drivers including fuel savings, reduced engine wear and driver safety and comfort.

A DPF is an aftermarket filter that replaces the muffler in most applications, forcing the exhaust to pass through it and filtering out 90 percent of all the particles in the exhaust.

Independent testing has shown that the use of Webasto engine heaters drastically increases the performance of DPFs when used to replace engine idle time. Specifically, Webasto coolant heaters have shown a 66 percent reduction in PM (particulate matter) during startup, leading to a longer service life of DPFs due to the decrease in matter filtering through.

In addition to increasing the performance and service life of the Diesel Particulate Filters, the combination of Webasto heaters and the DPFs can reduce cold-start soot levels in cold climates when used to pre-heat the engine prior to the first start of the day.

Diesel Emissions Service is connected to every major aftermarket DPF manufacturer, and the largest North America retailer. “The experience and focus of Diesel Emissions Service in this market is very strong,” said Webasto Thermo & Comfort North America Inc. President & CEO, Dr. Rolf Haag. “The combination of these two technologies will provide a solution that leads to extended maintenance intervals and a reduction in downtime and maintenance costs for drivers,” he continued.
