The Rebuild SoCal Partnership (RSCP) was founded in 2016 with a mission to educate elected officials and staff and agency officials and staff, and raise public awareness on the continued need for essential infrastructure funding. With a primary focus on Southern California, RSCP has remained dedicated to that mission over the past years — advocating for responsible investment in infrastructure projects to help fix our aging public systems and spur economic growth through job creation. The Partnership works in conjunction with construction management and organized labor, ultimately representing more than 2,750 businesses and 90,000 union workers in all 12 Southern California counties.
Now, the movement to advocate for critical infrastructure investment continues to gain momentum — on a national scale. Major business and labor groups have joined forces to form a new national coalition in support of infrastructure investment. The Coalition for Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment is dedicated to supporting the $1.2 trillion federal infrastructure package announced last month — a package that would dramatically boost public works spending over the next five years. The coalition is urging government to bring the deal “across the finish line” by turning the bipartisan framework into legislation that will be signed into law.
“Don’t let partisan differences get in the way of action — pass significant, meaningful infrastructure legislation now,” said the new coalition, a partnership between the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the AFL-CIO (a federation of 56 labor unions representing 12.5 million working men and women), and leading trade groups representing manufacturers and retailers.
Counted among the coalition’s partners are these significant labor organizations: American Road & Transportation Builders Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Public Transportation Association, American Trucking Associations, Airports Council International-North America, American Association of Port Authorities, and the Laborers’ International Union of North America.
In line with RSCP, the coalition recognizes that infrastructure investment also pays dividends in terms of jobs creation and greater economic stability: “Infrastructure modernization is a critical component of long-term economic growth and improved quality of life for every American. Enacting significant infrastructure legislation, including investments in our roads, bridges, ports, airports, transit, rail, water and energy infrastructure, access to broadband, and more, is critical to our nation and will create middle-class family-sustaining jobs,” said the Coalition.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg welcomes the increased momentum that the new coalition brings. “I appreciate the supportive words. Those are music to my ears,” Buttigieg said, adding, “I can’t think of better politics than actually delivering something that the American people want.”
