InSite Elevation – 3D Earthwork Software

I wanted to share some additional highlights from CONEXPO in order to photographically feature the new equipment and technology seen at the show. Below, we have equipment from Metso—transportable wheel-mounted crushing plants; ASV's new mid-size RT-50 Posi-Track loader; Insite Software's new 3D Earthwork Software options; Fecon's BLACKHAWK knife-tool mulching head; and the DX17Z-5 Electric prototype mini excavator from Doosan.

From Metso:

"Metso is extending the NW Rapid series of transportable wheel-mounted crushing plants with a range developed specially to accommodate road transportation in North America. The first models of the range are the NW120 Rapid portable jaw crushing unit and NW1213 Rapid portable impact crushing unit, which have been re-designed to permit their transportation in most states of the North American market."

"'Traditionally, it has been very common in North America to put crushers on wheels. We developed the North America specific models to meet our customers’ requirements: Road regulations are getting tighter and they are looking for more complete solutions from one supplier,' says Julius Mäkelä, Director of Portable and Modular Solutions at Metso and adds, 'We are pleased to tell our customers that the first NW1213 Rapid impact crusher is being delivered to the USA and a set of NW120 units are being prepared for delivery as we speak.'”

From Insite Software:

"According to Steve Warfle, product manager for Insite Software, 'The Elevation platform is incredibly user-friendly with intuitive operations, that can give contractors a competitive edge,' he said. 'Earthwork can eat up a large portion of a total build budget and represent the most risk. Estimators need to be able to trust the earthwork quantities and prove their numbers. InSite Elevation Lite delivers a powerful, cost-effective, and accurate take-off solution for general contractors, small grading contractors, as well as for landscape contractors who only require basic take-off features for estimating. Elevation Lite is extremely accurate and fast with high-quality graphics and easy-to-read reports, allowing estimators to validate their results.'”

"InSite Elevation Lite calculates cut and fill, stripping, strata quantities, paving and concrete materials, topsoil re-spread, areas, lengths, trench excavation, and backfill. 'If there comes a day when CAD import, utility take-off, and GPS grade control modeling is needed, upgrading to the Elevation PRO version is a quick and easy transition,' says Warfle."

From Fecon:

"Fecon introduces the BLACKHAWK knife-tool mulching head, which quickly and efficiently shreds standing vegetation and processes material on the ground. Designed specifically as a knife tool mulcher, every aspect of the BLACKHAWK, including rotor diameter and size, ratio of knifes to rotor, cutting chamber, even the hydraulic lines, contribute to maximize its production capacity.  Ideal for skid steer and compact tracked loaders with hydraulic flows of 27 to 45gpm, this new mulcher features 30 knife tools and has a 76” cutting width. It is an excellent tool for clearing brush and vegetation, shredding material in woodland urban interface zones, clearing rights-of-way, lot clearing and clean-up, site preparation, and more."

"This optimized rotor can aggressively shred standing vegetation as well as process materials already on the ground.  The ability to process already felled materials creates a more aesthetically appealing end-product and eliminates partially processed material being left behind.  Because the BLACKHAWK efficiently channels material through its cutting cycle, there is minimal draw on the engine, resulting in significantly improved fuel efficiency. Should a rotor stall occur, the unit will immediately recover when extricated from the stall-causing material and be ready to re-engage.  Most of the finely chipped material is broadcast forward of the rotor to minimize the re-processing of already shredded material, further enhancing its efficiency and effectiveness. "

From Doosan:

"The Doosan DX17Z-5 Electric prototype mini excavator was shown for the first time in North America during CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020, March 10–14. The DX17Z-5 zero tail swing, electric mini excavator could be available for customers in North America as early as 2022. Doosan is developing the new electric mini excavator product because of requests from customers who work in certain applications where exhaust gases are prohibitive. An example of this need is interior demolition jobsites. An electric machine gives excavator operators the ability to do their work with a machine they’re familiar with but without the inhibitions of diesel exhaust. The 1.7-metric ton size class was selected for this first model because of customer requests for a mini excavator that could work in confined spaces, requiring a machine with a narrow width to access the site."

"Instead of having a traditional diesel engine, the DX17Z-5 mini excavator is powered by a battery, located where the machine’s engine and fuel tank would normally be placed. The battery supplies power to an electric motor that is used to operate the mini excavator’s hydraulic system."
