It seems that El Niño has hit the Central Coast of California. It’s raining heavily in Santa Barbara and every time I step outside the rain penetrates my shoes, going through my socks and right to my toes. And it’s a bit chilly (depending on how you feel about 56⁰F). Under these conditions I like to enjoy a hot cup of soup and noodles, and become grateful for a man named Momofuku Ando. As is explained in this video from Vox.com, Momofuku Ando (I’m repeating his name because I like saying Momofuku Ando out loud) invented instant ramen.
Momofuku Ando was not a chef, but I think you can safely say he changed the world of cuisine and the diets of countless college students and magazine editors. His goal was to simply make things easier.
My point is that sometimes, making things a little easier can change the world. You could make things easier by embracing new technology such as drones, apps, or the increasingly popular business information modeling (BIM).
Construction Dive writer Kim Slowey has an article titled “6 New Year’s Resolutions for Construction Managers” that outlines half a dozen things you can do in the coming year that would definitely make things easier, and possibly change the world. She covers topics from safety to social media and how each one can help you.
So do it. They don’t sound any harder to do than inventing instant ramen.
In the meantime, enjoy your Cup O’ Noodles and thank Momofuku Ando for his inspiration!
