AGC Education and Research Foundation Awards Four Students with the Board of Certified Safety Professional Scholarship
The AGC Education and Research Foundation awarded four students from across the country with the Board of Certified Safety Professional (BCSP) Scholarship which focuses on construction management students with the safety emphasis. Evan Copes of University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Adrian Ensaldo of Pittsburg State University, Vanna Hosanny of Colorado State University and Collin Zuehlke of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville received the scholarships.
"Inspiring young minds to pursue careers in construction today helps ensure the continued strength of our industry tomorrow," said Eddie Stewart, the association's president and chief executive officer of Caddell Construction in Montgomery, Ala. "These awards remind us that with top-notch education and students' unwavering commitment to learn, the future of our industry is bright."
The BCSP Scholarship focuses on construction management students with exceptional leadership in safety. The scholarship recipients went through a rigorous application process that required students to submit their transcripts, complete essay questions, and provide recommendation letters not only from a faculty member but also one from an industry employer. Each application was reviewed by three board members and applicants had to be interviewed in-person by a local AGC member contractor.
"Investing in our youth is investing in the continued advancement of our profession," said BCSP's CEO Dr. Treasa Turnbeaugh MBA, CSP, ASP, CET, CAE, IOM. "With the BCSP Scholarship we are able to aid endeavoring young safety professionals in their pursuit of a safety career, and also assist in solidifying the future of our profession and the mission of ensuring that every worker returns home safely each day."
The AGC Education and Research Foundation offers undergraduate and graduate level scholarships to students enrolled in construction management or construction related engineering programs. Over $12 million in scholarships have been awarded to more than 4,000 students attending colleges and universities across the country. The winners of these scholarships were announced last month during the association's annual convention in Denver.
The Board of Certified Safety Professionals, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, is a not-for-profit corporation recognized as a leader in high-quality, accredited credentialing for safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) practitioners. BCSP establishes standards and certifies competency criteria in professional safety practice.
